School Information

Wilson Elementary School is located in the heart of a quaint West Allis neighborhood within walking distance of Wisconsin State Fair Park. This well maintained building was originally constructed in 1929 and has had several additions and renovations over the years. We have about 400 students in 19 classrooms grades 4K-5th. Wilson School has a long tradition of providing its students with wonderful learning opportunities and a solid academic and social foundation. Through the efforts of all we strive to make Wilson a collaborative deeper learning community to meet the needs of every child through personalized learning plans.

We personalize learning for each student in the core areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and inquiry. We have large blocks of time for Readers Workshop and Writers Workshop as components of Balanced Literacy (which includes Shared Reading and Writing,, Independent Reading and Writing, Guided Reading and Writing.}  Our Science and Social Studies topics are woven through our Reading, Writing, and Math curriculum and are part of Collaboration, Inquiry and Deeper Learning. 

In addition to our core academics, we offer students a full curriculum in Art, Music, Physical Education, Library/Media, Technology, and Social/Emotional Learning at every grade level.

We also offer many clubs for students to participate in both during the school day and after school.

Our summer learning program has been expanded to include an entire morning of learning (reading, writing, and math blocks).

Wilson's extracurricular student offerings include: Band, Orchestra, Chorus, and Prelude music instruction; , Peer Mediation Program, Garden Club, Student Council, Art Club, Recycle Club,  Running Club Lego Team, Battle of the Books, Chess Club, Yoga Club and Cadets.

Our active Wilson PTA provides many entertaining and enriching programs every year for students and their families. Some activities include: Color Run,  Book Fair, School/Home communication folders, Family Dance nights and Movie nights, Family Game and Bingo nights High Interest Day, teacher appreciation activities, and Family Picnic. The PTA is tireless in its efforts to make the school a great place for kids. The entire Wilson community works together to make our school a caring and enriching place for students.
